Hao Tan is a vice-dean and full professor in 亚博体育 of Design, Hunan 亚博体育. He received his Ph.D. in design engineering from Hunan 亚博体育 and returned to Hunan 亚博体育 in 2009 following a three-year design research experience in Alibaba and Google.

At Alibaba, He established a professional user experience research team and its infrastructures in 2007. He leaded the team to conducted 100+ user studies to support all online products lines, which support Alibaba IPO in Hong Kong.

At Google, He developed Google Rolling Study System for rapid user experience evaluation, which greatly improved the R&D efficiency in Google. He also conducted design research for 20+ local and global products, among which Google Music has achieved great success with achieving 87.3 million new users after launching in one week.

His research interests are in the general area of human-centred design, particularly the study of new science and technologies’ influence on human, society, and cultures, to address specific design issues, for example, transportation design, healthcare design, emergency and safety design, information design, and so on. Hao established the theory of “Machine behaviour design” and conducted human-AI integration research based on human behaviour science and machine intelligence science. As well as publishing over 100 papers, he has written and edited a number of books on ergonomics, HCI and intelligent design.

Amongst other recognitions, he was named to the China National Young Scholar list (2021), the Lotus Youth Scientist list (2020), and Yuelu Scholar New Star list (2022). He also received China National Education Award (2018), China Mechanical Science and Technology Prize (2008, 2015), Huawei Outstanding Research Award (2015), and other 10+ awards.
